Abstract submission to WSM 2026
Abstracts are invited for consideration to WSM 2026. All accepted abstracts will be invited to display an ePoster during the conference and have their abstract published in the online supplement of Anaesthesia. Selected abstracts will selected for ePoster presentation during the conference and will be eligible for cash prizes.
Submitters will be informed of the outcome of their submission around 9 October 2025.

Abstract submission
Abstracts can be submitted in any of the following categories:
- Audit & quality improvement
- Case reports or case studies
- Education and training
- Original research
- Survey
The deadline for submission is 23:59 on Wednesday 3 September 2025.
NELA Resident abstract prize
The National Emergency Laparotomy Audit (NELA) are sponsoring a resident poster prize at WSM 2026.
This is for the best abstract and poster describing work undertaken in your hospital to improve care for patients having, or considered for, an emergency laparotomy.
The criteria for a successful abstract and ePoster will be judged on:
- Original approach or innovation, or use of improvement methodology
- Extent of multidisciplinary and/or multispecialty involvement
- The degree to which NELA data has been used and/or addressing NELA key standards of care
- Demonstration of an improvement in care, which could be improvements in processes or outcomes
The deadline for submission to the NELA Resident Poster prize abstract category is 23:59 on Wednesday 3 September 2025.
